Ready to Enjoy a Flea Free Summer?

It’s summertime and there is nothing worse than watching your pet itch and scratch for hours on end. Fleas are out in abundance this time of year and it is up to you to protect your home and pet from these bloodsuckers.

The difficult thing about ridding your home of fleas is that it will take at least two treatments to remove these pests. Also, it’s important to note that your action items need to happen simultaneously. It is usually best to call a professional exterminator to help you with this problem.

Here are 3 tips to prepare your home for an exterminator:

  • Vacuum and pick up the entire area where the pets roam indoors. Be sure to throw the vacuum bag away after vacuuming. If you are using a bagless vacuum, empty the contents in a plastic bag and then throw that away. Don’t allow the fleas to hatch and breed in a vacuum you have not cleaned!
  • Pick up and wash all pet bedding in hot water. If your pets are allowed on the furniture wash the slip covers as well.
  • When the exterminator arrives take your pet to the vet or use recommended products to treat your pet’s fleas.

Flea Control Treatments

As we previously mentioned, removing fleas from your home requires at least two treatments. During this first treatment, make sure all pets and humans are gone from the house for the initial treatment. The initial treatment will kill the adults and nymphs. Your pest control expert will treat the interior of your home as well as the exterior and along your fence line if that is appropriate to prevent the neighbor’s fleas from entering your yard.

The second treatment will kill the eggs that hatch out after the initial treatment. This breaks the life cycle of the flea and leaves you with a flea free home and pet.

Enjoy your summer free from fleas!
